Meet the Nurse

Hi my name is Nurse Patti and I have been a pediatric nurse for 30 years.  I have worked as the nurse in the STARR program at Reed Intermediate School for the past five years.  Prior to that I worked at Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital on pediatrics and as a one to one nurse for a student with special needs in the Newtown School district.  I love working with children and their families in the school system.  I have three grown children that my husband and I enjoy spending time with.  I also enjoy my volunteer work with Best Buddies and with Catholic Charities. On weekends you will find me skiing with my family on Okemo Mountain in Vermont .  I am so excited to join the Middle Gate Elementary School Family and I’m looking forward to getting to know everyone.

Medication Administration

School personnel may only administer medications during school hours with the permission of the parent and the written order of a physician. This includes over the counter medications. Medication forms can be obtained from the school nurse or downloaded below. Prescription drugs should be properly labeled by a pharmacist. Medication should never be sent in with a student or placed in a lunch box or backpack.

Download the Authorization Form (in PDF)  to take to your doctor.

Bloodborne Pathogens
OSHA requires all staff to review blood borne pathogens safety annually.  Click here to view the power point presentation.
Remember that Universal Precautions (treating all blood and bodily fluids as though they are infectious) is your best protection from bloodborne disease.  Please complete the annual survey (e-mailed in September), for you to indicate that you have viewed and understood the powerpoint.  As always, please call with any questions.
